Pewaukee (pee-WAW-kee), Means lake of shells - C.E. Brown. "PEWAUKEE
LAKE, (or Pewaukee-wee-ning "lake of shells,") so named by the
observing Indians, on account of the great quantity of small shells
found in the sand along the shore.

co., SE Wis., at E end of Pewaukee L. (c.4.5 mi/7.2 km long),
suburb 17 mi/27 km W of Milwaukee, and 5 mi/8 km N of Waukesha;
